As endearing as those childhood memories are, just as emotional and unfortunately memorable are the thousands of children who die from improper, unsafe use of balloons. The problem that arises often with balloons is the dangers of choking and smothering from improper use of balloons. There are a few things responsible adults can do to make sure children and young adults are using and enjoying balloons safely.

* Always supervise children with printed balloons. Don’t leave children alone with balloons, even those that are blown up and being used for decoration. Balloons can pop at any time.

* Don’t let children or teenagers suck on balloon pieces. This is a very dangerous phase children seem to go through, often taught by adults who are not aware of the dangers.

* Pick up pieces of busted balloons promptly in order to prevent accidental swallowing.

Balloons, simple, printed, foil, Mylar, are all very good, acceptable forms of decoration. They often brighten people’s day and bring a smile to everyone’s face. With a little awareness and preplanning they can be enjoyed by people of all ages for years to come.
