Coolant recover tank, in most cars, is a made of plastic and connected with a hose to the radiator of your car. Just locate this tank and check the coolant level which can be done without opening the radiator cap. Check if the coolant level remains below the HOT line when engine is cold and at the line when the engine is relatively hotter.

You must drain out the coolant after regular intervals as it keeps rust and dirt particles away form clogging up the cooling system. Also, do check this system for other problems like wear and tear in rust inhibitors, etc. your attention can always prolong the life of your vehicle.
